I’m teaching a six-week class about self-publishing, or indie publishing, from March 4 until April 15. You can go here for details.
If your funds are tight — and I totally understand that — scholarships are available!
I’m putting everything but the kitchen sink in here. Half of me is worried there will be too much for the students and the other half of me is worried that there won’t be enough — so I’m actively overcompensating. I’m also using this class to relaunch my self-publishing career. I have some really crazy stuff coming up this year and am gearing up for all of it.
Here is the class introduction I’ve written for the website at The Loft.
Hello hello!
Welcome to Indie Publishing! I’m very glad to see you here.
I’m Melinda R. Cordell, and I’ve been self-publishing since 2016. My gardening books are my best sellers — I used to work as a municipal horticulturist — and I’m also publishing truckloads of novels. The work is occasionally stressful (deadlines!!!1!!), sometimes tedious, but it’s the work I was born for, and I love it. I’m over at melindacordell.com if you want to learn more about me.
I’ll be checking in through the week and replying to your posts — my check-in times will be kind of random, as my day job in March is rather chaotic and we generally are working overtime during that month.
If you have a question, go ahead and fire away in the Q&A forum, or holler at me privately via email.
This class will introduce you the zany world of self-publishing. We’ll talk about publishing options in the indie world, how to put your books out as ebooks and paperbacks, ways to build a newsletter and an audience, how to keep self-publishing costs down while doing quality work, best practices for success, and much more.
This will be a six-week course and I’m putting everything but the kitchen sink in here: Self-publishing vs. Traditional publishing; Kindle Unlimited vs. going wide; how to build a following; ways to use social media more effectively; advertising; tips and tricks — There’s going to be a lot.
